CHANDIGARH: A city resident lost Rs 5.5 lakh to online swindlers who pretended to help him out in renewing his Canadian visa. A fraudster called up the complainant and said he could fix the visa for Rs 12 lakh. The cybercrime cell of the UT police has registered a case. Complainant Brahm Dutt of Sector 27 claimed that the caller had introduced himself as Varun, friend of his nephew. He asked him to transfer Rs 12.55 lakh to an account number. Dutt transferred Rs 5.5 lakh in multiple transactions to begin with but when he checked with his nephew, he came to know that he had no friend named Varun in Canada.
