Chanakya's counsel in the Arthashastra on a ruler's conduct returns to one discipline more than almost any other: control over speech. Not eloquence. Control. He wrote that a king who reveals his thinking through words before the moment demands it has already surrendered his advantage. The principle was political, but it applies anywhere power is negotiated, a boardroom, a family argument, a conversation where someone is waiting for you to crack.
