Shakhtar Donetsk sold 18,000 tickets for their Champions League clash with Celtic in just one day after Polish fans snapped up the briefs, the club have revealed.
Celtic will make the journey to Poland to take on the Ukrainians due to the ongoing conflict in their home country after Russia's invasion earlier this year. It means the Hoops will play Shakhtar at the home of Legia Warsaw - Stadion Wojska Polskiego - with tickets going on sale for the their trio of games against the Parkhead side, Real Madrid and RB Leipzig in a three-match package.
The stadium will have a capacity of 25,000 for the Champions League ties and Polish fans will be backing the Ukrainian side, especially with no home team having made the competition's group stage cut. And the support was made clear after Shakhtar discovered that 18,000 briefs were snapped up within a day of going on sale.
Shakhtar's Ukrainian international defender Valeriy Bondar said: "I was amazed when I heard about the ticket sales. I am delighted with the buzz we have created in Poland. We all are.
"Honestly, none of us thought that tickets would be sold so quickly. Especially at this difficult moment, support in Poland will be extremely important to us.
"We will do everything to please both our fans and the Polish people too. We beat Real Madrid two years ago and we hope we can do it again. But the strength of the group is very high. All our opponents are very good."
