Champions League play-off draw: Start time, teams Rangers can face and how to watch today

The race for the 2022-23 Champions League steps up a gear today with the draw for the play-off round.

Rangers, Monaco and Copenhagen are among the teams vying for a spot in the group stage with this draw deciding the final round of qualification before the tournament proper begins.

The third qualifying round will take place after the draw with the Gers facing Union Saint-Gilloise of Belgium and Monaco facing a tough tie against PSV Eindhoven.

The draw is split into two paths, the Champions Path and the League Path with Rangers in the latter, which will produce only two teams for the group stage. The two losers will go into the Europa League group stage.

Here are all the details ahead of the draw...

When is the Champions League play-off draw?

The draw will take place tomorrow, on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.

Uefa’s headquarters, the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland will host the draw.

What time is the Champions League play-off draw?

The draw will start at 11am BST and will be followed by the Europa League and Europa Conference League play-off draws.

Who can Rangers face in the Champions League play-off draw?

Rangers are seeded for the draw and thus will avoid the winners of Benfica’s tie with Midtjylland.

The unseeded teams in the League Path will be the winners of Monaco vs PSV and Dynamo Kyiv vs Sturm Graz. Seedings were based off the 2022 Uefa Coefficient ranking with the top side in each tie deciding both teams’ seeding.

In the Champions Paths, Copenhagen (seeded) and Trabzonspor (unseeded) will enter the qualifying stages at this round.

The seeded teams will be the winners of ties involving Ludogorets vs Dinamo Zagreb, Red Star Belgrade vs Pyunik and FC Sheriff vs Viktoria Plzen. The unseeded teams will be made up from the ties involving Maccabi Haifa vs Apollon Limassol, Qarabag vs Ferencvaros and Bodo/Glimt vs Zalgiris.

How can I watch the Champions League play-off draw?

TV channel: The draw will be broadcast live on BT Sport 1.

Live stream: BT Sport subscribers can watch the draw via the BT Sport app or website, while the draw will also be broadcast for free via Uefa’s YouTube and social media channels.

When will the Champions League play-off games be played?

The two-legged ties will take place in the weeks starting August 15 and August 22.
