Defeated by Turkish side Fenerbahçe, Lyon will not be competing in Europe’s most prestigious club competition this year. Six years after their last Champions League campaign, Lyon had set their sights on returning to the competition. Instead, they will compete in the Europa League.
Over in Spain, Kylian Mbappé opened his goalscoring account in Real Madrid’s first home La Liga match. The Madrid side won 4-1, with a hat-trick from Mbappé. Meanwhile, their rivals Barcelona are doing everything they can to sign Argentinian player Julián Álvarez. He is still under contract with Atlético, but he wants to play in Catalonia.
