The ballot for tickets to next month’s Champions League final has been opened by UEFA, with Liverpool and Manchester City supporters free to tempt fate by applying for seats ahead of their semi-finals.
The Premier League ’s top two face Villarreal and Real Madrid respectively in the first leg of their last four ties next week but fans can now register their interest for a pair of tickets via the governing body's website between now and next Thursday.
The final will take place at the Stade de France on Saturday, 28 May with both finalists receiving an allocation of 20,000 and 12,000 more going to those who have applied via the ballot. Prices start at £58 for the cheapest seats with the top category costing an eye-watering £575.
In a statement UEFA said: “10,000 of the tickets reserved for the fans of the two teams will be offered for free to reward the lifeblood of the game for their loyal support during the pandemic. The ticket sale and allocation process for the tickets reserved for the fans of the finalist teams will be organised by the clubs involved, including the allocation of the free tickets.
“The remaining tickets are for the local organising structure, UEFA and national associations, commercial partners and broadcasters, and the Official Hospitality programme available also on UEFA.com.”
Tickets for the Europa League final, to be played in Seville on May 18, have also gone on sale with all but 7,000 available tickets going to supporters and the general public. West Ham United and Glasgow Rangers are in the last four and should they reach the showpiece both clubs will get 10,000 places each. Prices are markedly cheaper than the Champions League, starting at £33 and capped at £124.
UEFA added: "Applicants can apply for up to two tickets per person. The tickets will be personalised, and each applicant is required to provide their personal details and guest details on the ticket portal. They will be informed by email by 6 May 2022 at the latest as to whether their application has been successful or not. Applicants will also be able to check the status of their application on the ticket portal with their log-in information."
