Challenge Anneka to be revived after more than three decades

TV presenter Anneka Rice will be returning in a brand new series of Challenge Anneka, more than 30 years after the original series first aired. The reality TV show will be making a comeback, this time on Channel 5, with broadcaster Anneka once again taking on a series of challenges.

Airing on Channel 5 later this year, the new four part reboot will see 63-year-old Anneka along with her team of volunteers respond to a range of problems that the British public are facing in 2022. Channel 5 have revealed the new series "will shine the light on everyday heroes and deserving communities".

In the one-hour long episodes, Anneka will once again be pulling up at secret locations to meet the individuals at the heart of the challenge. Once again she'll be briefed on the task and with her trusty mobile phone, buggy and lorry to hand, she'll call in favours from big brands whilst being accompanied by Dave the Soundman.

"I wanted you to be the first to know that we're about to do a new series of Challenge, I know, 30 years on", Anneka said before revealing Dave the Soundman was next to her. Anneka first hosted the original 'Challenge Anneka' series back in aired 1989 on BBC One, it ran up until 1995 and was later rebooted on ITV for two special episodes which were broadcast in 2006 and 2007.

In a statement on the announcement Anneka said: “I can’t believe this is actually happening. The last few years have shown us all the power of community and how it’s good to be part of something bigger than ourselves. Dave the Soundman and I may have 130 years between us but the whole team is as motivated as ever to make a difference and shine a spotlight on people and organisations who need help.

"Three decades on, the issues may look different but at their core they are the same; they’re about people and communities. And we may look a bit different too but our hearts and willingness to get stuck in are the same."

It seems fans of the series are also keen for the 'Challenge Anneka' revival with many taking to Twitter to share their excitement. Paul Graham tweeted the star: "THIS IS INCREDIBLE. I hope the helicopter and opening titles are back?!" and Ashley Meredith added: "Can't wait to see this amazing programme. Hope the famous buggy and Dave return as well. A nostalgic but memorable to see again. Welcome back Challenge @AnnekaRice on @channel5_tv. Also the help of volunteers, businesses to bring happiness to those in need. xx".

"Wow! How much fun is this news?!," Sue tweeted: "Certainly would be a challenge for me to get into the old lycra now though!" whilst Duncan McFarlane added: "Best news of the decade, welcome back Anneka and Dave".

Challenge Anneka will air on Channel 5 later this year.
