Chael Sonnen Claims Jon Jones Would Beat Francis Ngannou

Chael Sonnen has made a bold prediction for the fantasy fight between Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou – claiming Ngannou would be picked apart.

Chael Sonnen Claims Jon Jones Would Pick Francis Ngannou Apart

Jon ‘Bones’ Jones made an emphatic return to the octagon at UFC 309, beating Stipe Miocic by TKO in the third round with a devastating kick to the body.

The former light heavyweight champion was a massive favourite on UK betting sites, with many MMA fans questioning the validity of the fight.

British heavyweight, Tom Aspinall, is deemed the most appropriate for Jon Jones and this was the biggest talking point in the build-up to UFC 309.

UFC fans are still hoping for Jon Jones to fight the Manchester-born heavyweight, but the American MMA star has consistently dismissed a future bout – despite Aspinall’s place as interim champion.

However, former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen has decided to focus on a different angle and revealed his thoughts on how Jones would do against the former UFC heavyweight champion – Francis Ngannou.

The Cameroonian heavyweight parted ways with the UFC as champion after a dispute with Dana White and is now the champion at the PFL.

Ngannou has also competed in the world of boxing, going toe-to-toe with Tyson Fury in a decision defeat and then losing by a crushing knockout to Anthony Joshua.

Despite success in the PFL, Chael Sonnen believes the former UFC heavyweight champion would be ‘picked apart’ by Jon Jones if the two were to face-off.

Sonnen said (Via ESPN MMA’s YouTube): “Do you know what Jon would have done to Francis Ngannou in hindsight?

“Now that we look back, Jon would have picked that big man a part. I mean, I’m just sharing with you, like, that’s a big man’s nightmare. Jon’s not a heavyweight; Jon is fighting at heavyweight. There’s a massive difference.”

A fight between Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou was once the dream matchup for UFC fans, but that ship has sailed and the focus has turned to Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall.
