Chad Lowe and his family are mourning the death of his 13-year-old daughter, Fiona Hepler Lowe, who died in September 2026. The devastating loss has put a deeply personal part of the actor’s life in focus. Away from his Hollywood career, Chad has built a family with his wife, film producer Kim Painter, and their three daughters, Mabel, Fiona and Nixie.
Fiona was the middle child and had been celebrated by her father just weeks before her death. Her family has asked for privacy as they cope with the loss.

Chad and Kim announced Fiona’s birth in November 2012. At the time, Chad shared his happiness with fans, writing, “It’s a girl!!! And she’s as beautiful as her mommy (@ikimlowe) & big sister Mabel!! We are blessed!”
Fiona grew up alongside her older sister Mabel and younger sister Nixie. Her middle name, Hepler, was the maiden name of Chad and Rob Lowe’s late mother, Barbara Lynn Wilson, who died in 2003.
In August, Chad marked Fiona’s 13th birthday with a loving message.
“Celebrating Fiona officially becoming a teen today!! Keep dancing through life FiBear! Love you soooo much!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️,” he wrote.
The family later confirmed Fiona’s death in a statement.
“We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona,” they said. “She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives.”
“Her passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time.”
The family did not disclose the cause of Fiona’s death.
They also included information about the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, saying, “If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, please reach out to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988.”

Chad Lowe’s family extends beyond Hollywood
Chad, 58, is known for roles in Life Goes On, ER, Melrose Place, 24 and Pretty Little Liars. He won an Emmy in 1993 for playing Jesse McKenna in Life Goes On. More recently, he appeared in 9-1-1: Lone Star alongside his older brother Rob Lowe, playing Owen Strand’s half-brother. Rob, 62, became a major Hollywood star through films and television shows including St. Elmo’s Fire, The West Wing and 9-1-1: Lone Star. Chad established himself separately, winning the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series Emmy in 1993 for his role in Life Goes On.

Chad married film producer and casting director Kim Painter in Los Angeles in August 2010. The couple were first linked in January 2007 after Chad’s split from Hilary Swank.
Chad and Kim have three daughters- Mabel, Fiona and Nixie. Their eldest daughter, Mabel, was born in May 2009. She was 15 months old when her parents married and was part of their wedding.
