Actor Chad Lowe and producer Kim Painter have announced the death of their daughter, Fiona, at age 13.
Fiona was the second of the couple’s three daughters; their eldest, Mabel Painter, is 17, and youngest, Nixie Barbara, is 10.
In a statement shared with multiple outlets Tuesday, the Lowe family said, “We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona. She was a loving young girl who was smart, creative and loved to dance.
“She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents,” the family said, adding, “In fact, she was the light of our lives.”

Lowe is best known for his Emmy-winning role in the ABC comedy-drama Life Goes On and for playing English literature professor Byron Montgomery on Pretty Little Liars. He is also the brother of 1980s teen idol and Parks and Recreation star Rob Lowe.
Lowe and Painter married in a small ceremony in Los Angeles in 2010. He was formerly married to Oscar winner Hilary Swank from 1997 to 2007.
Lowe celebrated Fiona’s birthday on Instagram last year, sharing a picture of his daughter alongside the caption: “Celebrating Fiona officially becoming a teen today!! Keep dancing through life FiBear! Love you soooo much!!”
Fiona’s death comes just over a year after her family lost their home in the January 2025 Pacific Palisades Fire.
At the time, Lowe celebrated his daughters’ resilience, sharing on Instagram: “Almost a month after we evacuated our girls finally got to go back to see what’s left of their home. The way they’ve handled this whole devastating experience is nothing short of remarkable. I am in awe of their spirit and resilience. Helping them navigate these tough times is my sole purpose. Being their dad is my life’s greatest joy and privilege.”
On Instagram, fans shared messages of condolence under Lowe’s post about Fiona’s 13th birthday.
“An unimaginable loss. May your beautiful daughter rest in peace. Her light will always shine, even though she is no longer physically with you,” one person wrote.
“Lifting up your family in prayer. I’m so truly sorry for your devastating loss of Fiona,” added another.
“I watched your Instagram video after your house burned down and learned that you read every comment. So I am compelled to comment on the incomparable loss of your beloved daughter Fiona,” wrote a third. “I truly pray for you, your family and those that had the good fortune of knowing your angel. Sending you my most sincere support as you navigate your life and manage this tragedy.”
