Cincinnati Bengals great Chad Johnson is infamous for being frugal with his cash when he’s not dropping huge tips on restaurant waiters.
During his decade-long stint with the Bengals, Chad’s reserved nature was the stuff of local legend and something he recently brought up during an appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” show.
“You gotta remember, I stayed at the stadium the first two years because I didn’t want to spend no money,” Johnson said, according to CNN’s Ben Church. “What’s the point? Why are you telling me to go rent a house, go buy a house, or go rent a condo when everything I need is right here in the facility? Showers, cafeteria, TV, couch, gaming system. What’s the point? I was so locked in. It wasn’t about having my own space.”
This isn’t the first time this type of story has made the rounds about Chad’s spending habits regarding where lived. He also told Sharpe, as fans well know, that he never spent money on real jewelry.
In a way, Chad was probably a little ahead of his time in terms of being frugal. Joe Burrow, for example, made it clear years ago that he plans to live off endorsement money and not spend his contract.
Last we checked, at least, Burrow’s not living inside Paycor Stadium, though.
