CET: Dakshina Kannada district fails to make it to top 5 in rank list

MANGALURU: Toppers from Dakshina Kannada district, who generally make a mark by bagging the top five positions in the CET every year, had to give up the top slots to candidates from other districts. Candidates from the district have been unable to make it to the top five positions in the CET, for admission to engineering, BVSc, and BPharma courses. In the CET to get admission in the bachelor of naturopathy and yogic sciences (BNYS) course, Aditya Kamath Ammembal, a student of Expert PU College, bagged the seventh rank. Manoj N of Alvas PU College has bagged the eighth rank in BNYS, and the fifth rank in BSc (agriculture), in the CET.

Usha Prabha Nayak, vice-president, Expert Institutions, said aspirants who are good in studies, are now focusing on NEET or JEE, rather than CET. Fr Clifford Sequeira, principal, St Aloysius PU College, Mangaluru, said that students who appeared for the CET, missed regular learning for two years straight, due to the pandemic. As a result, aspirants did not get enough time to study for the CET. Aditya Kamath Ammembal, who has bagged the seventh rank to get admission in BNYS, in the CET, said that he is awaiting the results of the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana Exam (KVPY), and is confident of obtaining a good rank. He has appeared for the NEET as well. “I am expecting a good rank in the KVPY. I wish to study at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, and become a scientist,” he said. He is the son of Dr Manjunath Kamath and Dr Shanthi Kamath.

Manoj N, a student of Alva’s PU College, and resident of Nelamangala, Bengaluru, said that he wishes to become a doctor. “I have written the NEET, and am hopeful of getting a good rank,” said Manoj, who is the son of Nagaraju P, an agriculturist, and Jayalakshmi K H.
