As India and the US work towards a trade agreement, the global economy is undergoing profound changes. Everywhere we look, norms that have long governed commercial operations and expectations - especially in technology, trade and energy - are being disrupted. For India, emerging as one of the world's leading engines of growth, these disruptions present a challenge, but also a great opportunity.
India's economic growth rate over the past decade - averaging more than 6% - has far outpaced the world. It has never been better positioned to exert its growing influence in markets and to help reshape the global economy in ways that spread prosperity, increase stability and promote sustainability. Doing that, however, will require India to develop deeper connections to capital markets in the US and elsewhere. And to persuade the rest of the world that stronger connections with India will increasingly serve their interests, too.
