Central and Robinson hope to heal the environment with tree-planting programme

Rvisra Chirathivat.

To commemorate World Environment Day, Central and Robinson began the "Central/Robinson Love The Earth" campaign, working with the Royal Forest Department and celebrity Kanawut "Gulf" Traipipattanapong to plant 75,000 trees in an effort to promote a sustainable environment.

Customers could visit Central and Robinson to pick up special seed kits, with all young plants to be distributed every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in 10 sites to highlight the company's 75-year dedication to environmental sustainability.

"Deforestation is one of the main environmental problems in Thailand. More than 18,000 rai of forest have been destroyed in Thailand as of late, which has led to a number of additional problems such as air pollution, PM2.5, global warming, and deterioration of the soil and water," said Rvisra Chirathivat, Central and Robinson's chief marketing officer.

"For this reason, we urge Thais to increase the number of green spaces around the country through the 'Central/Robinson Love The Earth' initiative by dispersing 75,000 young plants to commemorate Central's 75th birthday. In addition, we provided customers with 4,550 bags of seeds to encourage them to grow trees at home."

The project aims to contribute 195 rai of green space to the country, save 185 tonnes of CO2 annually, and maintain a 1-2C decrease in temperature. In order to reduce waste, its Say No To Plastic Bags campaign, which has been ongoing for four years, has reduced the usage of 29 million plastic bags annually.

"For the purpose of generating income for local communities around Thailand, the Central Tham project will provide markets for local produce and natural goods. As we have done over the last 75 years, our goal is to build environmental and economic sustainability for Thai society," Rvisra said.
