Celtics’ Marcus Smart may miss 1-2 weeks with ankle bone bruise

The Boston Celtics will have to survive without veteran point guard Marcus Smart for the short-term future after the Flower Mound native revealed he had re-aggravated a foot injury sustained earlier in the season in a recent game. Describing his injury as a bone bruise on his ankle per The Athletic’s Jared Weiss, Smart explained how long he may miss.

“I’m hoping for a week or two, but who knows?” he asked. “I (don’t) want to go out there and rush back and then we’re in the same predicament a couple of months from now, a couple of days from now.”

With the team facing two winnable games against the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers set to go down in the next week, a shorter absence would be more amenable to the Celtics’ push for the top seed in the East.

But even with a rematch with the Brooklyn Nets and a tilt with the Phoenix Suns who may want their own revenge after Boston beat up on them badly in their last meeting scheduled for the week after that, prioritizing Smart’s health for the stretch run and postseason ought to remain the priority moving forward.
