Celtics Lab 135: Diving into the seemingly endless combinations of lineups Boston could use in 2022-23

The Boston Celtics, by most accounts, had one of the better offseasons around the NBA. They added veteran forward Danilo Gallinari and former Indiana Pacers point guard Malcolm Brogdon via free agency and trade, respectively.

That they did so at the cost of only a collection of players who seldom saw the floor in the postseason left the core of the Celtics’ NBA Finals team in tact and in an enviable position. The depth Boston has should not only help the team keep the minutes of their best players down throughout the 2022-23 regular season, but it also provides the team a dizzying array of lineup options to play.

They can play very big, or hold their own with small lineups, able to field adept small and tall ball units equally. A squad built for switchy defense? Check. One built for shooting? Easy. Is the plan to put the opponent in a spin cycle with a mixture of passing and offensive skills? Got it.
