It was perhaps the most intense duel of the season.
Two leading candidates for the 2023 Kia Most Valuable Player award faced off in TD Garden on Wednesday night. Superstar Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum and star Dallas Mavericks wing Luka Doncic went at it with gusto in what turned out to be a 125-112 win for the Celtics. The two NBA luminaries putting up a combined 79 points.
And while Doncic might have won the individual game with his 42 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists, Tatum helped his team to the win with 37 points, 13 boards and 5 assists as he and his Boston teammates used the Wilt Chamberlain treatment to isolate the Mavs star’s ability to get his teammates going.
