Interim Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla revealed an adductor strain sustained by star wing Jaylen Brown in the waning moments of the team’s 125-114 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday may keep him out of action for several games.
“It’s sore,” he told the media via CLNS Media ahead of Boston’s road tilt with the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday evening.
“I’m not sure what the timeline is,” he added. “We’ll know more in the next couple of days, how he responds.” Asked if he felt it might be a longer-term thing, Mazzulla replied he did not think so.
“About a week or so, somewhere in that area,” he explained, relating that he believes team doctors have a plan in place for treatment, but that he was not aware of any details at present.
The Boston Celtics will face the Brooklyn Nets later this week with the Eastern Conference’s top spot potentially at stake. https://t.co/gl4Tf29QfS

The injury will have Brown out against the Nets as his injury heals. It appears he could make a return to the court sometime around Jan. 19.
That timeline would see the former Cal-Berkeley standout return to the court in time for a rematch with the Golden State Warriors on that date. He would miss a pair of road games against the Charlotte Hornets.
