Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla wants more close games for Boston

One thing is certain when it comes to the Boston Celtics and playing in close games — Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla is hoping for more of them. The Boston coach relishes the challenge of grinding out a close win for his team, even — maybe especially — if it happens to be a ball club that is much worse on paper or by record.

On the heels of just such a game against the lowly Washington Wizards, Mazzulla made it clear why he sees such contests as valuable lessons for the team to absorb ahead of the NBA’s 2024 postseason. Is there a solid foundation for such a perspective, or is this the coach putting lipstick on a pig?

The hosts of the CLNS Media “How Bout Them Celtics!” podcast took some time to talk about this unorthodox point of view on a recent episode.
