Celtics forward Grant Williams was unable to back up his talk ahead of a crucial trip to the free throw line during a recent clash against the Cavaliers. After guaranteeing he’d make both shots at the line, Williams proceeded to miss both, keeping the game tied and sending it to overtime.
On Tuesday, Williams responded to a tweet asking for users to nominate the most “I’m not him” moments in sports history, volunteering his catastrophic free throw attempts to the conversation.
“IMMA MAKE EM BOTH,” wrote Williams on Twitter, having a laugh at himself over one of the more embarrassing moments of the 2022-23 NBA season.

Williams couldn’t help but point at himself in response to the question about coming up short in the big moment.
Unfortunately, it’s almost a picture-perfect example of the question at hand.

During a 109-109 tie between Boston and Cleveland back on March 6, Williams was fouled on a shot attempt as time expired. With the game hanging in the balance, the Celtics forward could be seen chirping at Donovan Mitchell, giving the Cavs guard his guarantee that both free throws would be buried.
Of course, Williams proceeded to miss both attempts, and Boston ended up losing in overtime, 118-114, in what was one of the most viral moments of the season.
In terms of being “him,” Williams can admit without a shadow of a doubt that, at least at that particular moment, he came up well short.
