The Boston Celtics are one of the NBA’s more expensive teams now and are only looking at getting more expensive with Jaylen Brown‘s supermax contract extension kicking in next season, Jayson Tatum poised to sign his own, and potential extensions on the table for everyone from Jrue Holiday and Derrick White to Payton Pritchard set to help Boston’s payroll balloon.
But if you are worried about whether the team’s ownership group has the stomach for such expenditures, team Governor Wyc Grousbeck had plenty to say about the club’s pending spending spree at Holiday’s introductory press conference Wednesday. Asked if the new financial considerations introduced by the league’s second apron and all the punitive measures that come with it, Grousbeck answered via the NBA “We haven’t blinked at all.”

“We’re going to be over the second apron, I believe … and paying those penalties, but that’s the way life is,” said Grousbeck. “It’s designed so we can have more competition in the league, and we’re fine with competition as long as we win.”
