Even after handily blowing out the San Antonio Spurs on New Year’s Eve, Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla had criticism for his team, pointing out a stretch of play where the Celtics’ defense of the basket briefly turned into a turnstile. “I thought there were about four or five possessions where we weren’t great guarding the rim, which allowed them to get some layups to their right hand,” said Mazzulla via the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach.
“We just had to turn it up a little bit,” he explained. “We see we’re not at our best when we’re not organized offensively and when we’re not detailed defensively.”
“But we got ourselves out of it quick,” noted the Celtics coach. “As long as we’re taking accountability for what we’re doing and have awareness to that, I think we can get out of it quicker.”
