The Boston Celtics made their return to play against the Indiana Pacers on the road on Thursday night and found themselves in for much more of an intense contest than they likely anticipated, needing overtime to put away the Pacers 142-138.
While both teams grabbed multiple-possession leads, the Celtics squandered a 16-point lead early in the game and had to dig deep to force the extra period as a young Indiana squad pushed a clearly cruising Boston to the brink. Big games from Jayson Tatum (31 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists), Jaylen Brown (30 points, 11 boards), Malcolm Brogdon (24 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists off of the bench), Derrick White (17 points as a reserve), and Marcus Smart (15 points, 5 boards) helped Boston pull out the win.
