The Boston Celtics are playing so well that analysts have started comparing them to the best teams in Celtics history. And anyone who knows much about the storied franchise’s history is quite aware that is about as good of a compliment as one can get.
Speaking on how to measure this season’s success in a proper context for Boston in ways beyond point differential, The Athletic’s Zach Harper put out his idea of how to properly assess the team. “The real test is whether or not the Celtics can creep toward the best season in franchise history,” suggests the Athletic analyst.
“They’ve won 60 in a season 13 times,” notes Harper. “The 63-win pace would tie their fourth-best regular season in franchise history.”

“They’re probably not getting to the 68-win season the 1972-73 Celtics had,” he astutely observes. “But can they find their way to 66 wins the 2007-08 Celtics had? Their 19-0 home record is fueling this dominance.”
