Celtic vs Wolves gets new venue and date as friendly finally ON after South Korea no go

Celtic will take on Wolves in their penultimate pre-season fixture with the glamour tie taking place in Dublin.

The English Premier League side have confirmed the friendly against Brendan Rodgers’ side later this month. The Premiership champions are currently in Portugal for a warm weather training camp, where they will take on Portimonese later on Wednesday then again on Saturday. Once their stint in Iberia is done, it’s a longer trip to Japan as a tour of the Far East nation gets underway. Kyogo, Daizen Maeda and Reo Hetate will strut their stuff in their homeland in games against Yokohama F Marinos and Gamba Osaka.

Then it’s Julen Lopetegui’s men in Ireland on Saturday 29 July with a 2pm kick-off. Both clubs are due to tour South Korea this summer, the Hoops in addition to their jaunt to Japan. Instead they will face off against each other at the Aviva Stadium. Celtic will then play La Liga cracks Athletic Club before kick starting their domestic campaign at home Ross County on 5 August.

Russell Jones, Wolves’ general manager for marketing and commercial growth, said: “We are really excited to be heading back to Ireland for the first time in almost 10 years for this match against Celtic.

“Both ourselves and Celtic were extremely disappointed to have been forced to withdraw from our tour of South Korea this summer, but we are pleased that we have been able to rearrange this pre-season fixture – and couldn’t have wished for a better replacement venue than Dublin and the Aviva Stadium.

“Wolves have enjoyed some thrilling meetings with Celtic in the past and we’re sure that this game will be the same, as well as a great opportunity for Julen and his squad to prepare for our Premier League season.”
