Celtic vs Aberdeen semi-final kick-off delayed as pyro ban ignored by both sides

The kick-off for Celtic and Aberdeen's Scottish League Cup semi-final was delayed as a result of latent pyrotechnic smoke from the stands.

Despite prior warnings, both sets of fans lit flares as the players entered the field of play, which in turn flooded the pitch with smoke ahead of the proposed 5.30pm kick-off.

As per Celtic TV's commentary team, the visibility of the stadium's VAR cameras was said to have been compromised as the smoke took a several minutes to lift, as well as general visibility on the pitch.

Balls were in turn brought onto the pitch - as were fitness coaches to run extra warm-up drills - for both sides in order to keep the players moving, while the starting line-up of both sides remained on the pitch throughout.

Kick-off eventually took place at 5.45pm, 15 minutes later than officially planned.
