Celtic transfers are an optical illusion and ice cool Gio van Bronckhorst will roll the Rangers dice - Hotline

Rangers fans are waiting to see some ins and outs at Ibrox while Celtic have already been busy in the market.

But some in the Light Blues legions are refusing to panic as they reckon their squad is still better than anything Ange Postecoglou can muster. Rangers have injured stars coming back and one caller is convinced his men would have their hands on the Europa League if they had been available in Seville.

Ian McKay, Falkirk, said: “Celtic have signed a back-up goalkeeper and a left back. The other signings played last season. Rangers have John Souttar, who knows the Scottish game. Alfredo Morelos and Ianis Hagi, to an extent Ryan Jack and Kemar Roofe, and possibly even Niko Katic, will be like new signings. If they all stayed fit I believe Rangers would have won the Europa League and retained the Scottish Premiership. Rangers still have the better squad. If any of the big three or four leave then replace them with the fees obtained. There should be no panic at Ibrox.”

John Bruce, Glasgow, said: “It looks like the Celtic manager has showed his hand early and spent all his chips, whilst Gio has kept his poker face with his eye on the long game. He will have a couple of aces he can use, once the pack has been shuffled, then he can build up a very strong hand. Who would bet against Gio winning the jackpot?”

Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: “Celtic supporters spent last year avoiding the topic of European football as they were an embarrassment. They turned their attention to Sydney super cups and the Premiership, avoiding Rangers results in Europe. Now they want to discuss is European football? Nothing has changed. Every club in Europe wants Celtic in their group as it's an easy three points.”

But Brian Quinn, Paisley , said: “Someone at Rangers isn’t doing their job right. No matter the circumstances, £10m for Joe Aribo and £12m for Nathan Patterson is poor business for young players going to the Premier League. Celtic would have got double that amount and this is the reason they are miles in front of us.”

Hoops fans are not worried about Ibrox moves and Colin McArdle, Lanarkshire, said: “It's hilarious that Rangers have surpassed their budget and signed Millwall's bench warming unknown superkid Zak Lovelace for £100k. It looks like wee GVB’s only signings now will be in the Hotel register books in their pre season tour of Portugal.”

But Rab Picken, London , hit back and said: “Oh how i laugh at the rate the messiah Kyogo has been hailed. Absolute tosh. The guy misses more than scores. He will get found out this season. James Tavernier – who is a full-back – scored more than this kid on. Kyogo got more cards for diving than goals.”

Meanwhile VAR is in our sights ahead of the December role out and George Priest , via email, said: “So caller Alfie Mullen thinks VAR would have won his Rangers the league. When it overturned the vast majority of dodgy penalties his lot received I think he would find the gap would be closer to 20 points in Celtics favour.”

Finally, there’s a Brit in the last four of Wimbledon men’s competition – and for once it’s not our Andy.

Alan Mcgaw, Alloa, said: “Congratulations to Cameron Norrie getting through to the semi finals of Wimbledon. A fantastic performance from him. He will need to dig even deeper into his reserves and strengths to best Djokovic and get to the finals, but he has certainly given the British public something to cheer for.”
