Celtic could be set for a bumper transfer windfall with Jeremie Frimpong's blistering form catching the eye of Europe's top clubs. But they are likely to be contrasting fortunes for Moussa Dembele, who's contract continues to run down at Lyon with his value plummeting.
Frimpong departed Parkhead for Bayer Leverkusen in January 2021 and has since hit the ground running with eye-catching performances in the German Bundesliga which earned him a slot in Louis van Gaal's Netherlands side at the World Cup in Qatar. And football transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claims that Frimpong is one of Manchester United's top targets when the winter window opens as the Red Devils look for competition to challenge Diogo Dalot in the right-back role, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka surplus to requirements under manager Erik ten Hag.
European champions Real Madrid are also credited with an interest. The Dutchman was sold to Leverkusen for just under £10million but now his price tag is believed to have risen to around £21m and with his stock on the rise having made an appearance at international football's top stage, Celtic could benefit from any sale as they have a sizeable sell-on fee included, similar to one when Kieran Tierney swapped the Scottish Premiership for Arsenal in summer 2019. However Leverkusen director Simon Rolfes insists his side are 'very relaxed' over Frimpong's future with the 22-year-old's contract running until 2025.
Dembele is another former Celtic hero who fans would've been hoping could land the club some cash but that dream seems to be fading by the week. The 26-year-old was once valued at over £25m but with his form dipping this campaign with just two goals from 12 Ligue 1 games, it is likely he could depart for a cut-price fee of around £4m. And French outlet Jeunes Footeux say that English Premier League duo Crystal Palace and Aston Villa are on high-alert over the striker's availability.
A January sale would be the last chance for Ange Postecoglou's men to benefit from a 10 per cent sell-on fee on his £19.8m move to France or else he would be able to depart for free come the summer should no agreement be made to sign for another club. His fall from grace this season after netting 21 times has season has been seen as a surprise by many as a contract renewal stand off remains. But even if he does make a January switch, Celtic would be seeing thousands coming into the bank rather than the millions that they once anticipated.
