Celtic transfer target 'happy' at current club as summer window approaches

Reported Celtic transfer target Kalidou Sidibe says he is 'happy' at Guingamp.

The Parkhead side are said to be 'preparing' a £1.7m move for the midfielder, who plays his football in France's second tier.

Sidibe has made 31 appearances for his club this season, scoring two goals and assisting five.

Standing at an imposing 6'6, the Frenchman regularly takes up a deep-lying midfield role with Guingamp, where he reckons he has improved over the past 12 months: "I've aged a year, and matured in my season here," he said (Ouest-France via Record).

"I also think the team's style of play has had an influence. We have more of the ball, we're more in position with very clear positional play.

"I know exactly what I have to do when we have the ball. That's what helps a lot. It allows me to bring out my qualities with the ball at my feet.

"I can express myself with the ball. The coach also asked me to be calmer at the start of the season, to spread that to the other players. I took that into account and I am happy."

News of Celtic's interest in Sidibe comes after both Callum McGregor and Paulo Bernardo missed the club's 3-2 loss at home to Rangers last Sunday.

Arne Engels, Luke McCowan and Reo Hatate each completed 90 minutes in midfield as the Ibrox club won in Glasgow's east end for the first time in almost half a decade.

It remains to be seen where Celtic may look to strengthen in the summer transfer window, although Kieran Tierney has already signed a pre-contract to return to Parkhead upon the expiry of his current deal at Arsenal.
