Celtic are out of the UEFA Youth League after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk.
The Hoops had chances in the match - including a missed penalty by Adam Brooks - but ultimately their fate in Group F was sealed by a goal from Vladyslav Pohorilyi just after the hour mark at Airdrie's Excelsior Stadium. Coached by former Parkhead defenders Stephen McManus and Darren O'Dea, their team had won away at RB Leipzig but defeat on home soil against the Bundesliga youngsters, plus two losses against Shakhtar and one versus Real Madrid means Celtic are heading out.
They have one more game to go against Los Blancos next week but second-placed Shakhtar are now uncatchable on nine points to their three. It is a similar story to Ange Postecoglou's side at senior Champions League level, who have exited their Group F phase with three defeats and a draw, their solitary point being won away from home against the Ukrainian side they host tonight.

A victory is needed from Postecoglou's men if they are to maintain hopes of playing in the Europa League beyond Christmas.
Already their last 16 dreams are over but Celtic have impressed in spells at home to Real Madrid and against Leipzig on top of the point won in Poland.
For the youngsters, attentions will be fully focused on the 'B; team and their ongoing Lowland League campaign that started in the summer.
