JOHNNY KENNY was thrilled to score a brace in on his first-team debut as Celtic's pre-season friendly schedule got off to a flying start with a 7-0 win over Wiener Viktoria in Austria.
Ange Postecoglou and his players flew out for warm-weather training earlier this week and their preparations for the upcoming campaign began with a comprehensive victory.
Kenny, who joined from Sligo Rovers in January, made his first start in the senior side in the pre-season outing and finished the match with two goals to his name.
“It’s been good to be out on the pitch with the first team for the first time and top it off with two goals and a 7-0 win," the striker told Celtic TV.
"It’s been a good start to pre-season but we need to keep going.
“For the first goal Mikey Johnston did well. I knew having played with him before that he would find me at the back post and luckily he did.
“For the second one, Berna [Alexandro Bernabei] whipped it in and I got a bit lucky but I had to be alive to finish it first time."
The 19-year-old is enjoying his time in the senior set-up as he adjusts to the demands of playing under Postecoglou and believes he can learn a lot from some of his more experienced team-mates.
“The gaffer wants us to press high and get after teams at the top end of the pitch because that’s where we can get goals if we capitalise on the press," Kenny added.
“The gaffer really likes his pressing so we go for it.
“The intensity levels are sky-high and it’s been very tough but enjoyable at the same time.
“I’m getting to learn off the likes of Kyogo, Giako [Giorgos Giakoumakis] and Alby [Albian Ajeti], so really you can’t go far wrong.”
