Celtic 'step up' Benjamin Siegrist transfer interest as they bid to land Vasilis Barkas replacement

Celtic are believed to have stepped up their bid to land Benjamin Siegrist.

Vasilis Barkas departed the Hoops earlier this week for a season-long loan move to FC Utrecht and the Dundee United goalie was sounded out as a potential replacement.

Ange Postecoglou is keen to bring in another goalkeeper to fill the void and the Daily Record claim Celtic chiefs have made contact with the Swiss shot stopper's team.

Joe Hart has been the No1 since his arrival at Parkhead last summer with Scott Bain playing back-up - but the club are looking at the ex-United man as competition to the current No2.

Siegrist isn't short of options with clubs both sides of the border showing interest including Preston and Blackpool.

The report says Celtic have a list of targets as they bid to land an experienced goalkeeper.

Siegrist has been on the radar of the Scottish champions for some time after impressing during his four seasons at Dundee United.

He was a key player for Tam Courts last season as the Tannadice outfit secured European football for the new campaign.

They will enter the Europa Conference League qualifiers following their fourth place finish last season.
