Celtic star Mikey Johnston makes instant impact in Vitoria Guimaraes four-goal thriller

Mikey Johnston made an instant impact as he climbed off the bench during Vitoria Guimaraes' four goal thriller in Portugal's top flight.

The Celtic star - who penned an extended deal in Glasgow before heading out on loan for the season - was introduced at the start of the second period, similar to his first appearance for his new club, with opponents Arouca leading 1-0 after the first-half.

However, within 12 minutes of coming on, the Hoops attacker played a major role as he provided the assist for Anderson to level things up just before the hour for the away side. Some slack play and pressing from Vitoria allowed the ball to fall to the feet of Johnston and he pushed the ball through to his team-mate Anderson and he rounded the goalkeeper before firing into the back of the net.

Arouca restored their lead with 20 minutes to play thanks to a nice low drive from Quaresma but the drama all unfolded in added time. In the final minute of play Johnston and Co had a goal ruled out after a VAR check with the goal overturned much to the delight of the home crowd and players.

But with nine minutes added on, the away side were awarded a penalty that would eventually be taken with 12 minutes extra played over the 90. Ruben Lameiras stepped up and despite the goalkeeper getting a strong hand to his effort it nestled in the back of the net to secure a last-gasp point on the road.

The share of the points puts Vitoria midtable after seven games with ten points on the board. So far they've picked up three wins, three defeats and one draw.

Next up after the international break is a massive clash with league giants Benfica on October 1.
