Celtic star Cameron Carter-Vickers opens up on family split loyalties ahead of England vs USA clash

Cameron Carter-Vickers admits USA's clash with England has split his family.

The Celtic stopper is part of the World Cup squad that will take on the Three Lions in the biggest tournament in the world. Ange Postecoglou's main man was left on the bench in the 1-1 opening game draw. Former Hoops man Timothy Weah netted the opener but a late Gareth Bale penalty made sure of a share of the spoils.

Qualification for the next stage is a realistic target for the Parkhead stopper and his international team-mates with the game against England one that Carter-Vickers 'really wants to win'. However, that opinion may not be shared with a number of relatives with the big game dividing the support with half cheering for Gareth Southgate's men and the other half for the States.

He said: "When the draw with England was made I was excited. They are one of the top teams in the world and to match up against them and see where you're at is a good thing.

"For my family, half want us to win, and half want England to win.

"It's a game I really want to win.

"I'm not too sure how I'll feel when the game comes around but I do know I'll do everything to win."

He added: "[Kane] is a top player. It's a squad full of top players, we'll have to put in one of our best performances to beat them and that's what we're working towards."

Carter-Vickers has been a key player for Celtic since his initial arrival on loan from Tottenham. His impressive form made him a key summer signing with the defender penning permanent terms in Glasgow.

He's experienced trophy success and football at the top level in the Champions League with his form earning him a World Cup spot. He's played 18 times in all competitions at club level to date after a spell out injured.
