Celtic star Anthony Ralston says he "realised every kids dream" with proud Scotland moment in front of family

Anthony Ralston admits his first goal on his first start was his country was a dream come true as he netted in front of his proud family against Armenia.

The Celtic defender produced a man of the match display at Hampden as Scotland eased to a 2-0 win over their visitors in the Nations League Group B1 opener.

Bellshill-born Ralston, who attended Airdrie's All Saints Primary School, headed home after 28 minutes with a cushioned header into the far corner from Stuart Armstrong's cross before a Scott McKenna effort five minutes from the break sealed the points.

It was only Ralston's second cap after making his debut against Denmark in a friendly in November.

And he says the whole experience will "live with me forever."

He told Premier Sports: "It felt amazing to make my first start and get my first goal - all in a oner, it's a lot to take in.

"But I enjoyed every minute of it. I enjoyed the experience and I'm just happy I contributed to the team in a postive way.

"It's a very proud moment for myself, my wee girl... all my family were here tonight and it's something that will live with me forever, standing signing the national anthem.

"I just tried to get myself into the back post and I've headed it down. The angle I was at, I wasn't sure if it was going in, but I saw it hit the net and it was another proud moment.

"It's every kids' dream to play for your country and score for your country, so to say I've done that is quite special."

The result helped Scotland bounce back from last week's devastating defeat to Ukraine in the World Cup play-off semi-finals and Ralston was pleased with the response from Steve Clarke's side.

On that defeat last week, he said: "These things happen in football. It's not the result we wanted.

"But we regrouped and we went back on the training pitch to put it right tonight, which is the main thing.

"We have a talented squad and we've all been working hard since we've been away.

"It showed tonight and we've done brilliantly to come back from a difficult result and put things right."

Scotland now travel to Dublin to face Republic of Ireland on Sunday.
