Celtic's summer recruitment drive has Hoops fans predicting a Premiership canter and the lack of new faces at Rangers is creating Hotline anxiety.
One caller is tipping the Light Blues to finish outside the top two with many believing the Parkhead side have stolen a march on their Old Firm rivals. Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny , said: "Rangers have more chance of selling Alfredo Morelos and the rest of their players down the Barras than the open market. In my mind they are lame ducks due to their lack of progress in the transfer window and if I were a gambling man I would put money on them to finish outside the top two."
Jake Curley, Edinburgh , said: "It seems that the rest of Scottish football needn’t bother turning up for the new season as Celtic have sewn up the title already. Pride comes before a fall and the pomposity over Ange Postecoglou is insufferable."
William Hutchison, Aberdeen , said: "Hotline caller Gary Stevenson claimed Celtic only sign players on loan and free transfers must have forgotten about the millions spent on Cameron Carter Vickers, Jota, Alexandro Bernabi and Daizen Maeda, altogether we have spent £18million. His main question should be about what players Rangers are bringing in and how much they are willing to spend?"
Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: This is much more like it from Celtic with top signings coming in and more to come, our squad is looking like being the strongest and most settled it ever has in my lifetime. There will be no repeat of the mess at the start of last season where we gave Rangers a massive head start."
Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: "I wonder if Celtic will ever win the league and be the best team. If it’s not because of having referees in our favour, it’s Covid or other teams lying down to us. Rangers fans are getting the excuses in early this season and obviously panicking as they’ve not made any loan signings to add to their Dad's Army squad."
Henry Moffat, Stirling, said: "What a load of desperate nonsense from Rangers fans on the Hotline. While the champions have been celebrating a double and Champions League football, they have been left bleating paranoid rubbish about referees and our European cup win while they watch us splash the big bucks. They know there will be no nine point head start this year and they are terrified."
Jack Armstrong, Bathgate, said: "As an East Stirling fan I'm annoyed that we must be the only team in Britain that hasn't been linked with these Morelos, Ryan Kent, Glen Kamara and Joe Aribo. Come on, show a bit of respect please."
Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, said: "Who's making the decisions on which players are wanted by Rangers? Gio van Bronckhorst or Ross Wilson need to get things moving as our rivals across the city are spending big and building a strong looking side."
Charles Buchanan, emailed: "Barry Ferguson can't believe neither Rangers or Celtic have tried to sign for his nephew Lewis from Aberdeen. I don't think Celtic would be interested as he is no better than what we've got. He is a decent player but average."
Neil Warnock is never shy about sharing his Scottish football expereinces, or touting himself for jobs, and his Ibrox comparison to Parkhead had one caller baffled. "Neil Warnock said he visited Celtic Park after an invite from then Celtic manager Gordon Strachan but when he visited Ibrox later he was "blown away"? Asks Tam Williamson, Lanarkshire.
"My only explanation for Neil's comment is that he must have been sitting in a draughty area in the stadium. To compare Ibrox with Celtic Park is like comparing Lesser Hampden with Wembley. I can only surmise that when Neil made such comments he must have been out on a pub crawl."
Leigh Griffiths is on the lookout for a new club, and one man is well suited to get the best out of him according to Tom Paterson, Falkirk: "I think Derek McInnes should take on the challenge of sorting out Griffiths and giving him one last chance."
Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: "I hope Leigh Griffiths has kept Brendan Rodgers phone number. He said that after a conversation with Rodgers he felt like Lionel Messi."
The hotline ends on a sad note after the tragic death for Rangers legend Andy Goram, but Bud Hay, Dumfries, paid tribute to The Goalie's talents, saying: "If you put Andy Goram in one goal and Ronnie Simpson in the other, most of the games would have ended 0-0 as they were the best goalies ever. R.I.P Andy and sad news."
