Celtic are close to making Jota’s Parkhead switch a permanent affair and the Hotline reckons it’s time Celtic nailed down their other loan star.
Ange Postecoglou is hoping to finalise a £6.5million deal that will see Benfica ace Jota remain in Glasgow next term.
And with that close to being tied up, the Hoops faithful say a move for Spurs defender Cameron Carter-Vickers should be next on the agenda.
Jim McSorley, Bothwell, said: “Jota’s loan and now hopefully his permanent signing has been great business by the champions-elect.
“With his key goals and assists this year he has already paid back the transfer fee with plenty more to come.
“Cameron Carter-Vickers next please!”
Nick Campbell, Edinburgh, also called in to say: “Securing Jota is a massive statement of intent, but this should only be the beginning of the investment. Celtic must go out and get another player of similar quality because the drop off when he’s unavailable is too big.
“I’d also like to see us get something similar for Carter-Vickers tied up as he’s been key to fixing the defensive problems that cost us the 10 last year.”
But Rangers fan David Wright would not be too disappointed to see Celtic shelling out a large chunk of their £40million windfall on this season’s loan pair.
He said: “While it’s a blow for Rangers to see Celtic gaining automatic qualification for the group stages next season at least we know they’re likely going to have to spend around £12million just to stand still if they want to keep Jota and Carter-Vickers.
“Our Europa League run should mean we have some cash to spend in the summer too so it doesn’t have to be the disaster some Rangers fans are making it out to be.”
And Gavin Macleod, Renfrew , emailed in: “No doubt Jota and CCV have been good signings for Celtic - CCV in particular has solved a big issue.
"However, £12m must be a good whack of Celtic’s transfer budget on two players who are already in the squad - a squad that failed drastically in three European competitions this season."
Fellow Bluenose John Bruce claimed in yesterday’s Hotline that Rangers' Euro exploits proved they were still top dogs in Scotland despite being on the brink of surrendering their Premiership title.
That drew this response from Robert Frew , who said: “The more John Bruce tries to convince himself that the league is less important than Europe, the more you feel his pain.
“I trust his writing off of winning the title doesn’t extend to last years ‘historical’ achievement.”
Arrin Geddes, Irvine, added: “John Bruce is clearly still hurting from Sunday.
“Rangers didn’t dominate the game, they went for broke in the second half and ultimately failed because of a lack of quality and composure in the last third.”
The Ibrox support have rightly taken huge pride from their performances on the continent, which have helped secure a golden Champions League ticket for Scotland’s title winners next season.
But Liam Birney made sure to point out the Light Blues weren’t the only ones contributing, saying: “Let's just put the record straight on the European coefficient.
“This is a points based system and accumulated over a five-year period. Celtic - NOT Rangers - have accrued the most points in that time. Fact!”
Finally, Kenneth Houston added his thoughts to the flurry of messages that have flowed in since Jimmy Bell’s tragic passing.
He said: “As a football fan, I would like to pass on my condolences to the family and friends of Jimmy Bell.
“People tend to forget the backroom boys, who stay with their clubs through thick and thin, and don't change when the manager does. I hope other fans will forget their allegiances, and join me when I say RIP Jimmy.”
