Nick Walsh will be on VAR duty for Rangers’ home clash with Aberdeen on Saturday - with Steven McLean the man in the middle at Ibrox. The duo will swap roles having been tasked with taking charge of Celtic’s thrilling 4-3 victory at Hearts last weekend.
That pulsating encounter saw the new technology come under fire for failing to award Celtic a first half penalty when the ball struck Jambos defender Michael Smith on the arm in the box. McLean was a busy man at VAR HQ as he recommended Walsh award Hearts a spot kick in the first half before ratifying a second penalty after the break. Celtic also had a goal chalked off in a breathless encounter. Walsh will now revert to VAR at Clydesdale House with John McCrossan assisting.
Meanwhile, Willie Collum will take charge of Celtic’s trip to face Livingston on Sunday having become the first ref to take the VAR controls in a Scottish Premiership match on Friday as the technology was rolled out for St Johnstone’s win at Hibs.
Alan Muir will be VAR for the Tony Macaroni Arena clash with Frank Connor assisting. Elsewhere and Andrew Dallas will be VAR assisted by Gary Hilland for Hearts trip to Ross County on Sunday with David Dickinson refereeing the Dingwall encounter.
Hibs take on St Mirren in Leith on Saturday with Greg Aitken and David Roome on the video controls while Don Robertson is in charge at Easter Road.
David Munro and Alan Mulvanny are the VARs for Dundee United v Motherwell with John Beaton officiating at Tannadice. And Euan Anderson is the VAR in Perth as St Johnstone take on Kilmarnock with Gary Hilland again assisting. Craig Napier will take charge of on-field matters.
