Celtic have opened talks to re-sign Marcelo Saracchi following his loan spell last season.

The left-back featured 27 times across all competitions as the club secured a domestic double, producing a series of consistent performances that strengthened his case for a return to Glasgow’s east end.

The Celtic Way has reported that initial discussions are now underway over a potential deal, with the club keen to retain the Uruguayan’s services.

Despite strong support for a permanent move, Celtic are currently exploring the possibility of another loan. However, Saracchi is reluctant to agree to a second temporary switch, with just 18 months remaining on his Boca Juniors contract.

The Argentine side have made it clear he is available for around €1.5 million this summer, leaving Celtic to decide whether to meet that valuation or push for an alternative arrangement.

The Celtic squad is due back for pre-season training this Friday, June 26.

First team coach Gavin Strachan recently departed for English Championship club West Bromwich Albion, while the futures of Shaun Maloney and Mark Fotheringham have yet to be resolved.
