Celtic & Rangers player values ranked in Scottish Premiership MVP list

Celtic talisman Kyogo has been named the most valuable player in the Scottish Premiership, according to an updated market value ranking.

Football information site Transfermarkt has updated the market value of 99 players in the Scottish Premiership to formulate an MVP list.

The top ten is dominated by Celtic and Rangers with just a handful outside of the Glasgow clubs in the top 50 market value according to the German website.

Kyogo surged to the top of the rankings in the most recent update after his value was increased to €14m as part of the recent changes.

His Hoops teammate Jota was previously Scottish Premiership MVP, who has seen his expected value increased also by from €1m up to €13m as part of the latest update.

But Kyogo's deadly form, scoring 34 goals and notching five assists in 50 games across all competitions, saw the Japanese international top the charts for the league's market value.

“Kyogo was undoubtedly the star of Celtic’s treble-winning season and that’s been made abundantly clear from the avalanche of rumours linking him with a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer,” said Transfermarkt UK Content Manager, Stefan Bienkowski. “In no uncertain terms, Kyogo was the best player in Scotland this season.”

In turn, Celtic also have the most valuable squad in Scotland, now ranked above arch-rivals Rangers.

Brendan Rodgers' new team has six players in the top ten MVP list with Kyogo joined by Jota (€13m), Cameron Carter Vickers (€13m), Reo Hatate (€11m), Matt O'Riley (€9m) and Callum McGregor (€8.5m)

Hatate saw his value increase by the largest amount at €4.5m, while O'Riley and Carter-Vickers' were boosted by €2m.

As for Rangers, their most valued player in their ranks is Todd Cantwell (€9m). The attacking midfielder has enjoyed a rise of €1m since the last rankings were updated.

The Englishman is joined by teammates John Lundstram and James Tavernier inside the top ten, while Ryan Kent is also among the names, although has recently left the club.

“There’s little doubt that Rangers fans have grown tired of star players underperforming and the club relying on older talents, while Celtic run rings around the club on and off the pitch with better recruitment,” Bienkowski added.

“Beale will not only be tasked with taking Rangers back to the top of the Scottish Premiership, but he and his backroom staff will have to ensure they do so with young, talented players that fans of the Ibrox club can get excited about. He has a huge rebuilding job on his hands.”

Defining their market values model, a Transfermarkt statement read: "The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models.

"A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail.

"In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

"The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market.

"Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm."
