Celtic, Rangers & five EPL clubs 'scout' Lennon Miller

Some of Britain's biggest clubs joined representatives of Celtic and Rangers this midweek to watch one of Scotland's brightest young talents, Lennon Miller, in action.

The Scottish Sun says the scouting mission occurred as the Motherwell starlet captained Scotland's Under-19s to a 0-0 draw against France on Tuesday.

They claim that scouts from Manchester United, Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Aston Villa joined their counterparts from Celtic and Rangers to take in the match at the Falkirk Stadium.

Nils Koppen was there for Rangers. The club's new technical director is quoted as saying:  “One of the objectives will still be to sign the best talents from Scotland to maintain our squad.”

John Park, formerly of Celtic, was also there ahead of joining Blackburn Rovers.

Miller is contracted to Motherwell until 2026 and the Fir Park side are believed to want over £4m for the midfielder.

Now 18, he made his professional debut aged 16 in 2022.

He currently has 55 first-team appearances for Motherwell and has recently captained Stuart Kettlewell's men.

There have been calls for Steve Clarke to call Miller up to the Scotland A-squad.

He commented recently: “It's good for Lennon, it's good for his club.

“He's another one, a young one, that everybody wants to hype and push. It's important to let young players grow.

"So let's just allow Lennon a little bit of time and space to grow up more than well.

“It makes my job easier if there are players pushing for a call up because you want to have as many difficult choices as you can. You want to have as many good players as you can.

"So the more young ones that are coming through, the better it is for everybody in Scotland.

“It's already been mentioned in one of the reports that came out recently [the Transition Phase paper that the SFA published in May] that we don't produce enough young players, so hopefully we can in the future.”
