Celtic face an uphill battle if they are to end a miserable 18-year run without winning a European knockout tie.
Ange Postecoglou watched his side go down to a shock 3-1 home loss to Norwegian outfit Bodo/Glimt in their Eruopa Conference League tie.
Not since they defeated Barcelona in the 2004 UEFA Cup have the Hoops know a post-Christmas knockout tie.
And dropping down to UEFA's new third tier competition didn't even help with Daizen Maeda's goal giving them a bit of hope for the return next week.
Here's how the players rated on a disappointing night in Parkhead.
Joe Hart
Must have been feeling pretty stunned as he wasn’t called on to make many saves yet forced to fish the ball out the back of his net a few times. Tried to keep Celts moving. 6
Josip Juranovic
Often left exposed as the Norwegians stretched Celts out wide and tried to isolate the full backs. Decent going forward and provided delivery for the goal. 5
Cameron Carter-Vickers
On the end of a sore one after being clattered by the Bodo keeper but it would have hurt even more when his man got in front for the second goal. 6
Carl Starfelt
Comfortable on the ball when building from the back but the problems were in front of them as Bodo’s breaks left him with too much ground to cover. 6
Greg Taylor
Had his work cut out trying to snare Solbakken as the wide man gave him a ton of grief. Skinning on the way to Bodo doubling their lead. 5
Callum McGregor
Too often left swamped in the midfield as the two men alongside him remained high up leaving the captain outnumbered. Needed help at the opener. 6
Matt O’Riley
Took time to settle as the visitors were in about him. Couldn’t nick possession enough as the first line of defence and it left his team open to breaks. 5
Tom Rogic
Struggled to find time to get his foot on the ball as he was relentlessly pressed. Neat when he did get it but too often bypassed when Bodo were coming out. No shock to see subbed. 5
Liel Abada
Made a bright start but the Norwegians quickly cut off his supply line. When he did wriggle free the delivery wasn’t quite up to scratch and he didn’t attack the back post as much as usual. 5
Jota
Tried to make things happen and always demanded the ball. Forced a save in the second half when Celts were chasing the game but often frustrated. 5
Daizen Maeda
Lively and got the goal that looked to get Celtic back in to the game. But too often rushed his work in the final third when rare chances did arrive. 6
Substitutes
Reo Hatate (for Rogic 60) Took time to find his feet but showed some neat touches. 4
Giorgos Giakoumakis (for Abada 60) Provided a focal point but service wasn’t good enough. 4
James Forrest (for O’Riley 74) Whipped over a couple of dangerous balls and missed a late chance. 4
