Celtic player ratings as Carter Vickers and Starfelt rise to the occasion to seal another Rangers win

Celtic have booked their place in the final of the Scottish Cup after Jota's first-half header was enough to see off Rangers.

The Portuguese winger punished slack Rangers defending to take the lead just before half time and great work down the right-hand side by Daizen Maeda. James Tavernier hit the post for the Light Blue with a drive in the second half, with substitute Fashion Sakala missing the open goal from the rebound. Ange Postecoglou's side are now on course to secure the Treble this season after lifting the Viaplay Cup earlier this year.

Michael Beale has not beaten Celtic in four attempts since taking over at Ibrox last November, while Rangers have not won a derby game in six attempts. Celtic are one victory away from retaining the league title and will be overwhelming favourites when they play Championship side Inverness at the national stadium on June 3 and few will bet against them completing the clean sweep.

Here is how Record Sport rated the winning side on a dramatic day of action at Hampden.

Celtic player ratings

Joe Hart - Keeper was solid and assured with his tasks in the first-half. Punched for safety and a decent low save from Arfield on the hour mark. 7

Alistair Johnston - Started strongly against Kent with powerful defending and decisive challenges. Canadian was a terrific performer until his 50-50 with Barisic ended his semi-final. 8

Cameron Carter-Vickers - Centre-back dealt with the Rangers attack and vital clearance from under his own crossbar just after break. American was a rock in the backline again. 8

Carl Starfelt - Swedish defender had his share of interventions and won duels and always seemed to be in the right place to get his head or his foot onto something in a danger area. 8

Greg Taylor - Left-back was always available as he looked to combine with Maeda and move inside to take the ball. The Parkhead stalwart was a key contributor. 7

Callum McGregor - Skipper took it and moved it as he grew in influence during the first-half. Not able to dominate the ball with his usual class. However, never stopped getting into the places. 7

Reo Hatate - Back from a lengthy absence and took some time to find his rhythm. Japanese just couldn’t find his classy range and was replaced in the second-half. 6

Matt O'Riley - Midfielder was involved in plenty including twice at the opening goal. The Danish star always demanded possession and kept going until he was replaced. 7

Jota - Miscontrol at the far post cost him a clear sight of the target from a Maeda cross. No mistake with his header. Portuguese had made the vital contribution before going off. 7

Kyogo Furuhashi - Japanese looked to run in behind and survived a couple of first-half sore ones. Low shot saved by McGregor after restart. Sizzling shot wide. Worked hard. 7.

Daizen Maeda - Great battle down Celtic’s side with Tavernier. Superb cross which Jota couldn’t control and another which the Portuguese gleefully headed home. Did not stop and was excellent. 8.

Subs

Anthony Ralston - Right-back was a straight swap after Johnston had to go off early in the second period. 4.

Aaron Mooy - Australian was able to shore it up in the middle of the park with intelligent work. 4.

Tomoki Iwata - Japanese slotted into the engine room and did his jobs. 4.

Sead Haksabanovic - Attacker wasted a good chance in a three-on-three with lost composure. Kept the ball late on. 3.

Oh Hyeon-Gyu - Final minutes for the South Korean as he replaced Kyogo. 2.
