Celtic 'planning' Japan pre-season tour with Kyogo, Hatate, Maeda & Ideguchi set for homecoming

Celtic 'planning' Japan pre-season tour with Kyogo, Hatate, Maeda & Ideguchi set for 2023 homecoming

CELTIC are reportedly planning a pre-season trip to Japan next summer.

The Scottish champions are believed to want to head on their first ever tour of the country in 2023.

The Hoops have a strong Japanese contingent in their squad with Kyogo, Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi on board.

Ange Postecoglou of course also has a strong connection with the country having managed their with Yokohama F. Marinos directly before joining Celtic.

Japanese media outlet Sponichi say that the club are planning the trip to Asia next summer.

It's stated that Celtic's marketing staff have visited Japan to start preparation works.

The tour would include at least two friendly matches against J League opposition, including Marinos.

Japanese-based journalist Dan Orlowitz has warned fans hoping to travel will have to wait on the nation re-opening their borders to tourists.

Currently travel to the country is restricted due to Covid issues.

Orlowitz tweeted: “This is such a tap-in that the only surprise, to me, is that it took until now for something to leak, but I suppose there’s no urgency 1+ year out.

“Of concern to those anticipating the Japanese Bhoys’ participation will be the Asian Cup (likely hosted in SK or maybe Japan).

"Would-be traveling support should keep in mind that as of this tweet, Japan’s borders are still closed to almost all tourists.

“Obviously hopes/expectations are that the latter issue is resolved by Summer 2023, because if it isn’t, then, uh, yikes. Also don’t look up flight prices right now if you are pregnant or have a heart condition, just saying.”
