Celtic manager latest on Martin O'Neill, Robbie Keane and Craig Bellamy

MARTIN O’Neill will resolve the uncertainty over his Celtic future when he meets with controlling shareholder Dermot Desmond this week.

The Parkhead club have also discussed the manager’s post with Robbie Keane, a free agent since he quit his role at Ferencvaros last week.

Craig Bellamy was another candidate scheduled to meet with the Parkhead hierarchy. Also a target for Burnley the Wales manager appeared to distance himself from an imminent move into club management when he spoke ahead of a friendly clash with Ghana in Cardiff.

O’Neill remains the apparent frontrunner for the post after opening talks with Desmond over another year or two in charge.

The interim boss is taking time to consider his position after completing a league and cup double and the two men will speak again this week. Agreement on the final details have yet to be thrashed out.

Keane held discussions over the role last night while Bellamy was prepared to utilise former boss O’Neill as an experienced sounding board if he landed the post, but now appears to have pledged his commitment to Wales ahead of the Euro 2028 finals.

“Everything's in place,” he said. “I get completely backed and it's going to give me the opportunity in the next two years to improve again.

"Links? I understand it but I don't look too far. I love what I have here.

"I've been offered that elsewhere as well, but I have this here already. Wales gave me this opportunity and one or two might not have because I was conscious I haven't managed before. Wales have given me this opportunity and I'm really grateful for that.

"I am ambitious, trust me. I want to earn loads and loads of money but there's a time and now, at this present moment, it just doesn't feel that time."
