Celtic land two UEFA fines as Rangers and Hearts also hit in the pocket by governing body

Celtic have been handed a five-figure fine by UEFA after fans displayed an anti-monarchy banner at their Champions League game with Shakhtar Donetsk .

The Queen sadly passed away last month aged 96 with the news announced during Hearts' Europa Conference League showdown with Istanbul Basaksehir. The two sides took part in a silence and wore black armbands ahead of the second-half of the Tynecastle clash. As a mark of respect the full SPFL card was postponed with the Hoops' first game back in Poland.

Ange Postecoglou's men got off the mark in the section with a 1-1 draw but should have really collected all three points after failing to convert a crucial second goal while well on top. Artem Bondarenko's own goal handed Celtic the advantage before Mykhaylo Mudryk cancelled out the strike to claim a share of the spoils.

However, during the game supporters displayed a banner that read "F*** the crown" with another reading: "Sorry for your loss Michael Fagan".

UEFA have now taken action hitting the club in the pockets with a €15,000 euro fine. They cite the reason as being: "Message not fit for a sports event."

They were also in hot water for the use of fireworks in the home clash with Real Madrid with a fine of €4,250.

Celtic return to Champions League action tonight as they host RB Leipzig at Parkhead.

Postecoglou's men know they need to claim all three points to have a realistic chance of reaching the last 16 stage of the competition. They are yet to taste victory with one point from three matches so far.

Rangers have also landed a €14,000 fine for "Improper conduct of the team" at their Ibrox showdown with Napoli.

Hearts have also been charged €3,000 for the "Lighting of fireworks and throwing objects" during their Europa Conference League clash with İstanbul Başakşehir and a further €2,250 for "Throwing of objects" in Riga against RFS.
