Celtic injury latest with Cameron Carter-Vickers 'major doubt' and Giorgos Giakoumakis update

Ange Postecoglou faces a Celtic injury headache as they get set to return to domestic action following the international break against Motherwell.

The Hoops lost out for the first time in just shy of a year last time out against St Mirren as the Buddies caused a major upset in Paisley to end the Scottish champions' 100 per cent start to the new Premiership campaign and with that their long-standing unbeaten run.

Cameron Carter-Vickers - who has been an ever-present since initially joining on loan from Tottenham before a big money permanent switch - is a major doubt to face Steven Hammell's side, according to the Scottish Sun, with the same injury that ruled him out pre-break and also had him withdraw from the USA national team squad.

The Celtic defender could be joined my multiple team-mates in missing the Parkhead clash with Giorgos Giakoumakis missing Greece's win over Northern Ireland. Boss Gus Poyet told Greece NT: “He had a small problem, and we couldn’t risk him. I don’t know how long. I think it’s not going to be long out, but if you ask me now, I don’t think he will play at the weekend in Scotland. So, he was not fit to play.”

Summer recruit Sead Haksabanovic only lasted 32 minutes of Montenegro's Nations League clash with Finland before being replaced after a heavy challenge while Daizen Maeda sat out of Japan's friendly with Ecuador and will be assessed on his return to his club.

Carl Starfelt is still struggling with the injury he picked up against Rangers and played no part against St Mirren and the two Champions League games to date. It is a case of wait and see with the Swedish stopper.

David Turnbull also left the Scotland camp after the opening game win over the triple-header against Ukraine with Steve Clarke confirming he hadn't recovered as quickly as hoped from an ankle knock picked up before meeting up with the squad.

Clarke said: "David Turnbull will pull out the squad, he picked up an ankle knock at the weekend we thought would clear up.

"It's not going to clear up in time for this so he's better to go back to his club and get ready for their next game. Two players light, I'll probably need to call at least one, maybe two players."
