FRANK MCGARVEY has sadly been diagnosed with cancer, his family has revealed.
The Celtic hero, 66, was delivered the news on Thursday this week.
His family say that he is now awaiting further updates from doctors on his condition.
A striker, McGarvey also turned out for St Mirren, Queen of the South and Clyde.
He also earned seven caps for Scotland.
On behalf of the family, son Sean confirmed the news via social media.
He wrote: "Unfortunately our Dad received a cancer diagnosis yesterday and we are waiting on more information from the experts.
"Will update here when we know more. Thanks for all the support and well wishes. Paul, Sean, Scott and Jennifer."
Celtic have passed on their best wishes to their former player.
A statement reads: "The thoughts of everyone at Celtic FC are with Frank McGarvey and his family at this difficult time."
