Celtic fans are being urged to gather at Merchant City to celebrate their team lifting the Scottish Premiership trophy after their lunchtime clash with Aberdeen on Saturday.
Ange Postecoglou and his victorious players are set to be presented with the league silverware for the second successive season after they face Barry Robson’s Dons on the final game of the 2022/23 league season.
And the Hoops legions are set to make the short trip to the Glasgow Cross area to celebrate the success which could see a repeat of the scenes in the city centre area last season when the green and white legions partied in the same part of the city. Flags, flares and fireworks turned the city green with the party going on until the wee small hours. A message on the @cmonthehoopsceltic Instagram page read: “Merchant City party 27th May. After the Aberdeen game we encourage all fans to gather in the Merchant City ready to celebrate another title. Bring flags, banners, inflatables and lots of noise.”
While there were scenes of jubilation 21 months ago, police did launch an investigation after a historic building in the city centre was vandalised. Images emerged of damage to the Mercat Cross building at Glasgow Cross. The windows of the structure, which dates back to 1930, were smashed. Six arrests were made and the clear-up operation costs were revealed to be just over £8000.
