Celtic fans become Rangers finance experts as Jota transfer payday cynics pointed to the Hotline transfer sums

Football is on hold at the moment. Hotline bickering is not. It doesn’t matter what date is on the calendar or what other sports are currently centre of attention, arguments rage over the Scottish game.

George Wilson’s comments on yesterday’s Hotline about Celtic’s potential spending and Jota’s move to Saudi sparked a fiery response. Eddie Easson, Ballingry, said: “Why is George so obsessed with Celtic? The answer he is racked with jealousy. Celtic have just pulled in £12 million for Jota and he has been replaced already. They are about to get the same amount from any Jeremie Frimpong deal. Money his team can only dream about. Both teams have and will sign new players time will tell if they are any good.”

Michael Emonds, Northampton, added: “So George thinks it’s comical comments made by Celtic fans on the radio about Jota, I think it’s hilarious the comments Mr Wilson made less than a year ago when he called Jota a one-trick show pony and Cameron Carter-Vickers a cart horse or donkey. Well our two four-legged-friends went on to win the Treble with the champions while the Govan Galacticos under master coach Beale won Hee Haw. Now that is really comical.”

George McCallum, Falkirk, had his views on the transfer situation at Parkhead as he said: “Reo Hatate is going nowhere as he will be staying like Kyogo to play in the Champions League with Celtic. If he goes to Tottenham or Saudi Arabia he will be denied the chance to ply his trade in the European elite league.

"Even though it will be with Celtic, he needs and wants the experience of this superior competition. Where better than with Celtic as he will not get it with Tottenham or in Saudi?”

Alan Flett backed Gordon Strachan’s stance as regards transfers to Saudi and said: “I don’t understand why anyone would criticise players and managers for going. For the last 20 years, money has dictated that England is the place they all want to go to.

"Before the days of Sky TV, it was Italian football that ruled the roost. No one complained then. If all this Saudi cash helps to weaken the arrogant English and their precious league, then all the better.”

Paddy Gowans sent an email which read: “I don’t think the players Brendan Rodgers is signing are his own signings. I think big Angie had plans to sign them. Just look. An Aussie and a South Korean. Bit of a coincidence, don’t you think?”

Rangers are making their own signings under Michael Beale and Cornelius Freeland gave an assessment from south of the border as he said: “Watching Rangers last half a dozen games, nobody has noticed the style of play. Gone is the typical Scottish game end to end as I would call it. Beale is now adopting the play from the back keep possession with which they easily beat Celtic. The same style the top six play in England.”

Elsewhere, Neil Renton, Leith, is happy with things at Easter Road as he said: “Signing Dylan Levitt has set the expectations at Hibs. They mean business and should be the best team outwith the Old Firm while rivals Hearts can’t get anyone to join their club. Levitt to Hibs to finish third next season.”

Meanwhile, William Hutchison, Aberdeen, isn’t happy at protestors wrecking sporting events after their latest episode at Wimbledon. He said: “Again these just stop oil idiots ruining people’s day out. Can you imagine if they did that during a London, Manchester or, even worse, an Old Firm game. Rather I didn’t think about that!”
